Book excerpt: POTHOLES of BOSTON takes readers to the aortic interchange of a great American city. Love the Sox's or hate the champion Patriots, Boston potholes are the world's envy. They are natural miracles of the modern world, asphalt sculpture created by us, for us, in our own art nouveau movement. Longitude and Latitude are provided for each image. Haiku is interspaced between the curated images to provide an intellectual respite from the avant-garde.In the course of employment, this venture had many iterations. Images of operator despair as they traversed the adjacent potholes, focus shots of dented rims and dreams, haiku on every page. But none seemed to fit my envisioned narrative structure; photos of the obtuse, images of micro-frustrations in the course of New England living, and ridiculous haiku for comedic relief.Journalistic friends suggested storylines of urban decay, a mirror to our American lifestyle. To be clear, no such intention exists. Enjoy this coffee table book as intended. No photographers, while dodging horrific Boston traffic, were harmed in the creation of this book.
